2007. New to Utah's High Uinta's. Did a solo cross-country day hike to find waters seldom touched. Found meadow far, far off trail with teensy little rivulet meandering across. Could step over it. I did. It exploded with fish by hundreds. Nabbed one after another, releasing almost all. Caught nice little one about 11 inches long. Didn't recognize it. Legal to keep but wish I hadn't. Found out it was scarce native cutthroat. I catch quite a few back in those secluded spots but now release them all. Beautiful fish. Came upon pack goats tied to tree couple miles away. Talked to owner fishing nearby lake with no success so about to leave. I went to pack goat spot and caught 17 in a row where I stood while goats looked on. Who'd a thunk it? Later stopped at small lake named, aptly, Cutthroat Lake and got limit to take home releasing whole flocks o' fish. You gotta love day hikes like that. Get away from the people and ya gets to the fish.
